Old Man Wrestling League

League Starts: October 22nd

League Format

  • Any athlete who has graduated high school prior to the start of the season

    Rostered Athletes must remain available throughout the entirety of the season

    Rostered Athletes must weigh in for at least 50% of regular season matches to qualify for post season team tournament

    All athletes must have a valid USA Wrestling Card Number

    Athletes may be from any location as long as they qualify under these guidelines

  • Team Captains must register their team roster through team registration system

    All teams must pay full price of team registration prior to athlete registration

    Team Registration will include roster submission with weight class declaration included

    Athletes must register through league management system/website

    Athletes who declare a team must appear on team registration sheet prior to the season

    All athletes must have a USA Wrestling number

    Free Agents will pay equivalent to Team Registration divided by League Minimum Team Roster Size

  • All teams will consists of no less than 5 athletes and no more than 12 athletes

    Weight Classes are 150, 170, 190, 220, HWT

    Teams can carry up to three athletes per weight class

  • Consisting of three periods, the first being (2) minutes and the next two being (1) minute. The second and third periods will be preceded by a 30 second break for athletes to return to their corners for advice, drying, and refreshment if needed.

    Overtime will consists of one (1.5) minute period for first takedown or first points scored. If no score is accomplished it is immediately followed by a sudden victory of (30) seconds top and bottom. The athlete who scored first gets choice. If there is no score flip a coin each side representing one of the athletes referee decision. In this scenario the top athlete must maintain control and the bottom athlete must score.

  • Will follow NCAA Folkstyle scoring for all matches excluding riding time points.

    Intentional back bows will be deemed illegal and worth an immediate penalty point.

    Moves against the joints will be stopped immediately for a potentially dangerous.

  • Minor Decisions – Winning by 7 points or less scores 3 points for a team

    Major Decision – Winning by more than 7 points but less than 15 scores 4 points for a team

    Technical Fall – Any time an athlete leads in a match by 15 points or more a match is ended and scores 5 points for a team. Athletes must be allowed to finish pinning combinations prior to tech falls conclusion.

    Fall/Pin – Scores 6 points for a team.

    Tie Dual Meet Score Criteria – winning team will be awarded one point.

    1. Greater number of falls/pins

    2. Greater number of matches won

    3. Last point scored (or last match won if in sudden victory)

    If Free Agents are on a team for a competition their victories will result in both teams earning 0 points. If they lose in any fashion then the winning athlete will score the equivalent of a forfeit for their team. Pins against Free Agents count as pins, all other victories are counted as forfeits.

  • All athletes must compete with either a singlet or two piece consisting of a tightly fit top and shorts for bottoms

    All athletes must compete in wrestling shoes that are not worn outside of wrestling surfaces or event space

    Headgear is optional for all athletes

  • No more than 4 hours before each event all athletes must weigh in who are competing that day during the weigh in time on location of the event in front of at least one Team Captain from a different team or League Commissioner.

    For the regular season competitors must weigh within 1.5 lbs of their respected division. For the final team and individual tournament individuals must weigh their exact weight class.

    Athletes over weight may choose to go up in weight or not compete.

  • Referees will be trained and patched officials at all times and will uphold safety before all else.

  • Any conduct that is unbecoming or unethical and determined by commissioner or 3/4 of team captains may be considered for ejection from the league. This includes fighting outside the rules of a wrestling match and unsportsmanlike behavior.

    No alcohol may be consumed by athletes prior to or while actively competing.

  • During the regular season each team will wrestle each other in quads consisting of a minimum of 3 teams and maximum of 6 teams competing in dual meets until each team has wrestled each other at least once.

    The Post Season will consist of a Dual Meet Team Tournament and an Individual Tournament for each Weight Class. Both events will be seeded based on the results of the current season. Any ties will be voted on by a majority rule of Team Captains and Commissioner.

  • Athlete – Any participant must be graduated from High School on a roster or in Free Agency

    Facility – Duals will take place at “Next Movement Training and Performance” at 109 Washington Street, Plainville, MA

    Free Agent – Athletes who wish to compete but are not entered on a roster for a team. These athletes may come to any quad and look for either exhibition matches or be placed on a team for the day. Free Agents may only join 1 team for a day or compete in as many exhibitions as they can get. The Free Agent results are recorded for seeding purposes. If a Free Agent loses their match the result will be equivalent to a forfeit in team score but if a free agent wins their match the result will be recorded as a zero score for both teams. Free Agents must be registered to the league prior to the start of the season unless a unanimous vote of Team Captains and Commissioner votes otherwise.

    Exhibition – Any match not recorded for team or tournament seeding. Scoring will take place to determine a winner but results will not be kept for seeding.

    Periods – Three periods the first being two minutes and the next two being one minute also known as 2-1-1 each period will end and have a 30 second break between periods

    Quad – During the regular season a minimum of 3 teams and maximum of 6 teams will compete in dual meets consisting of each team’s weight classes for a team score to determine total team winners.

    Referee – Individual trained or in training to watch over match safety for athletes, enforce rules and apply scoring criteria

    Table Worker – Any volunteer or paid staff member working at mat surface tables for both individual scoring and team scoring

    Team – A collection of no less than 5 athletes and no more than 12 athletes collectively competing to win individual matches, dual meets and tournaments

    Team Captain – The athlete in charge of their team. Their duties will include assembling their team, paying team dues, controlling team roster, and communication with commissioner

    Tournament (Individual) – All athletes compete in a league wide tournament. Athletes must be on exact weight or bump up to a new weight class. Individual champions will be crowned for the season.

    Tournament (Team) – Seedings based on regular season team results will enter each team into a team tournament bracket. Ties in seeding criteria based on wins and losses will be voted on by a collection of Team Captains and Commissioner.

    Scoring – Will use a modified NCAA Scoring System for Folkstyle Wrestling

    Statistics – In each dual meet, results of each match and final team scores will be recorded by Table Workers from each mat. Any individual statistics may be kept by the teams themselves

    Weigh Ins – Each athlete steps on a scale calibrated accurately to determine weight class.

Every League Member May Participate in OMW Practices Monday and Wednesday for every month the league is active.

Example (Season Starts October 22 - November 19. You may practice as soon as you are registered from October 1 - November 31st).
